Front Yard Landscaping

                                                                        Above 5/25/2018

I started working on some of my front yard last year (2016). I added more rosebushes this spring (bare root/Feb/March 2017). A couple of them have started blooming. Two (of 4) of my peony plants bloomed this year too (year 2). My day lilies are growing big!  That is Betty Prior rosebush on the corner (year 3). I planted climbing Joseph's Coat next to it in March 2017. I had a couple of blooms. Update: My first Joseph's Coat died winter 2017/18.  I planted another Spring 2018.

                                                              Here is my first peony.

Fading peonies a bit flattened by the recent heavy rains. Waiting on the day lilies to sprout flower buds. A yellow rose. Mr. Lincoln and/or Chrysler Imperial roses in the back. Love rose, Electron, Betty Prior and Purple Prince lily foliage.

Center front: 5 new Stella D'Oro day lilies were planted here last month and 5 others in another area. They are hardly noticeable in this photo, but some of them already have flower buds.

Blaze Rosebush

I planted this bush last year, very early spring 2016 (bare root). It bloomed some in year one. This year is great. Not much of a scent, but its been one of my favorite bushes to look at this year. The kennel is 6 feet tall.

3 Year Old New Dawn Rosebushes (2)

The chicken coop is about 50 feet wide and 10 feet high (at the door). There are two New Dawn rose bushes planted here. These roses did not have much of a scent, but they bloomed prolifically. It is supposed to be a rebloomer, but did not do so last year. It is possible that it has reverted back to its parent, Dr. Van Fleet, a once bloomer. I was disappointed at first, but I've decided I can make the most of it by planting more clematis or another plant that might create an even more interesting show of color rather than many months of the same roses. I do love these roses.

Vegetable Container Gardening

Update: I didn't really have a lot of luck with my container vegetables. I had a few veggies. I think I need to improve on fertilization if I do it again.

I'm mixing pots of vegetables in with my flower gardens this year. Just an experiment. I have veggies in the ground too.
These are cucumber plants. I'm going to put a wire trellis cage around the one in the black pot. I'm guessing the one in the brown pot will grow up the iron.
One tomato plant (Better Boy hybrid) and three pepper plants - sweet banana, red bell, hybrid green bell.

The perennials are blooming!

Primrose and lilies blooming with the roses. Zephirine Drouhin (pink bush) is about done, for now, but it is sending out new growth. Hopefully, it will bloom again. That one smells wonderful!

If you scroll back to earlier posts, you will find these bright pink rose bushes just after planting. I bought them for $1, looking quite sad!
